MHO at RTR 2024

The UCLA Graduate Medical Education Office hosted the 6th annual Road to Residency conference on August 24, 2024. The in person conference was cohosted by the Minority Housestaff Organization with generous support from DGOM's Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion office. Over the last handful of years, the conference has reached nearly 1,000 medical students across the country and offered a unique and dynamic program every year to provide students with insightful pearls for their optimal match. Majority of the conference's attendees identify with a historically underrepresented group in medicine.

This year the students benefitted from a special keynote from Dr. Dale Abel, Chair for the Department of Medicine, a program director's panel, networking lunch with faculty and resident representation from all major training programs, a resident panel, and workshops on managing finances as a trainee, ERAS application, exceling in one's clerkships, and navigating a medical school exploratory year.  Over 50 mock interviews were offered to students applying to residency training programs this cycle, as well as professional headshots to all in person attendees.

Each year students leave glowing feedback, including this year, "The format was amazing, the speakers were inspiring, everyone made it a point to be available and interested in mentoring, and the fellow attendees were just as inspiring"
